About me
Christyna Kaczynski-Kozel, Pianist & Teacher of Musical Phenomenology
My passion for music
I was born in a family of musicians, my mother was an opera singer, and my father was a concert pianist. I started playing piano at the age of 5, and continued to various conservatories in Quebec, where I was born.
Living in Italy and Spain gave me the opportunity to learn these beautiful languages and to further my musical education.
But what really changed the direction of my musical life was meeting Sergiu Celibidache. In my early twenties, when I heard him conduct for the first time, I was transported to some faraway place but a place I knew well. Or maybe I should say, it was a very near place that I had forgotten.
I decided to leave everything behind and move to Stuttgart, Germany. There the adventure and the deep learning of music began. Over ten years, hundreds of rehearsals and concerts enriched my life, shaping my hearing and my understanding. I also took classes with Maestro on Musical Phenomenology in Stuttgart, Mainz and Munich.
What I finally understood is that Musical Phenomenology is the most important tool for any musician because it helps us understand the essence and meaning of sound and its mysterious effect on the mind and the emotions. Today I am happy to share my knowledge of MP with instrumental musicians, pianists, singers, and conductors.
